Rogue Traders Targeting Heald Green – Advice and Information

GMP have today shared a warning about rogue traders targeting the Heald Green area.

GMP say: “We have seen an increase in reports of individuals attending residential addresses in  Heald Green, often targeting elderly or vulnerable residents, claiming to be tradespeople, contractors, or officials.

In many cases, they demand payment for work that is either unnecessary, significantly overpriced, or never completed.  We are urging all residents to remain vigilant and help protect family members, friends, and neighbours who may be vulnerable to this type of fraud.

If you are concerned about a caller or feel threatened by one at your door – trust your instincts – call 101 in a non-emergency – always call 999 in an emergency.  If you have information about suspicious individuals operating in your area, please report it via 101 or through Live Chat on our website.”

The council has useful advice on choosing a trader here – Stockport Council.  You can search the Business Approval Register for Trading Standards local approved businesses.  When choosing a business, particularly when arranging a service, you should:

  • satisfy yourself that you both agree in writing what work is to be done and the price that is to be paid
  • obtain more than one quote and choose the business you are most happy with

Whilst the price is important, but it’s not the only factor that you should take into consideration. The Business Approval website has additional pre-contract tips to help you find the right business to carry out work for you.

The Citizens Advice Bureau also has some useful advice on finding a trader: Find a trader and check you can trust them
