Remembrance Sunday 2025 was a solemn occasion as we came together to remember as a community, it was also uplifting to see so many people joining to take part in the ceremony and taking a moment to pause and reflect.
Particular thanks to Warrant Officer Nigel Oakley, Squadron Sergeant Major, 131 Commando Squadron Royal Engineers, for leading the parade and also to His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant Rev Charles Kwaku-Odoi for joining us.
Participating in the parade were representatives from Bolshaw, Etchells & Outwood Primary Schools, 2nd Heald Green & 1st Gatley Guides, 2nd & 3rd Heald Green Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, 2nd Heald Green Rainbows and Brownies, 2nd Heald Green Squirrels and the Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit.
Those laying wreaths also included Cllr Anna Charles-Jones representing Stockport Council, Heald Green Churches Together Churches, Cheadle Masjid, Heald Green Conservative Party, Heald Green Labour Party as well as Greater Manchester Police, the Rotary Club and Heald Green and Long Lane Ratepayers’ Association. It was especially poignant to have a relative who laid a wreath in remembrance of their fallen relatives.
Thank you to all those who took part and parents, who brought their children along to participate in the parade and the volunteers, the helpers and marshals who made it possible, as well as those who live near the Cenotaph for their patience and support with the road closure arrangements.
