Stockport Council started highway construction works during week commencing 7 January. The work was scheduled to last until April, near the village centre shops on Finney Lane as well as Junction Improvement Works at Finney Lane/ Outwood Road and Finney Lane/ Queensway. This work is as a part of the SEMMMS Mitigation and Complementary Measures scheme and follows a consultation exercise undertaken in 2017 by the Council’s Traffic Services Team.
The proposed highway works include:
- Repaving of the footway using conservation paving/ kerb adjacent to 246 – 268 Finney Lane.
- Improvement of the street lighting and new gateway street lighting artwork;
- Re-arrangement/ installation of bollards along Finney Lane
- Construction of improved crossing points with dropped kerb and tactile paving;
- Improved car park signing
- Refurbishment and relocation of the finger post sign at Outwood Road.
- Reconstruction of pedestrian refuge islands at the junctions of Outwood Road/ Finney Lane and Queensway/ Finney Lane (including carriageway widening at Queensway).
- Introduction of No Waiting at Any Time (Double Yellow Lines) and refreshing existing road markings.
- Improvement of the existing bus stop adjacent to 256-258 Finney Lane.
Some footways will be closed and alternative pedestrian diversion routes signed to enable the contractor to re-pave the footways.
Traffic flows will be maintained throughout the construction period however temporary traffic signals or stop/ go boards will be utilised when necessary to control alternating single direction traffic flows through the work area.
