The Armed Forces Covenant is a formal pledge that acknowledges the sacrifices made by those who serve, or have served, in the British Armed Forces. By supporting this covenant, the Heald Green Ratepayers’ Association joins a national movement to ensure that our service personnel, veterans, and their families are treated with fairness and respect.
What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
The Covenant is a promise by the nation that those who serve should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services. It also recognises that special consideration is appropriate in some cases, particularly for those who have given the most, such as the injured or the bereaved.
Our Key Commitments
In signing this document, we pledge to uphold the key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by:
- Promoting the Fact: Ensuring our community and local businesses are aware that we are an armed-forces-friendly organisation.
- Supporting Veterans: Working to support the employment of veterans and recognizing military skills and qualifications in our community activities.
- Assisting Service Spouses & Partners: Supporting the employment and community integration of partners of those currently serving.
- Supporting Reserves: Supporting our members and residents who choose to be members of the Reserve Forces.
- National Events: Supporting events such as Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, and the Poppy Appeal.
Why This Matters for Heald Green
Heald Green has a long history of community spirit and independent representation. By formalising our support for the Armed Forces community, we ensure that:
- Local Veterans have a clear point of contact and support within their own neighbourhood.
- Service Families moving into the area feel welcomed and supported with local integration.
- The Sacrifice of our local service members is never forgotten during civic events and commemorations.
